In December 2021, journalist Diane Marois had the unique opportunity to follow French artist Dabeull, the rising star of the international Funk scene, on tour through the "Chicano" neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
Celebrated and revered by this community of Latin American immigrants’ descendants, who have become the guardians of 80s Funk over time, Dabeull opens the doors to a very closed world, usually seen only in gangster movies and rap videos.
Immersed in their universe, Diane introduces us to their folklore and culture inherited from the low riders, but also reveals the darker side of their daily life, caught between police violence and gang violence in Los Angeles.
A breathless road movie that culminates in the "Once Upon a time in L.A." festival organised by Snoop Dogg. With the exceptional participation of legendary groups: SOS Band, Zapp and Cypress Hill.
A documentary series directed by Diane Marois.

Caught between police violence and gang wars, their attachment to Funk is like an outlet, almost a religion passed down from father to son. And they are not alone; in the Funk galaxy, there are also the "Boombap kids," a very entertaining and popular monthly show on Twitch, featuring Dabeull as well as the Marseillais Mofak, who has become one of the favorite producers for West Coast rappers (Xzibit, Wiz Khalifah...), and one of the rising stars of G-Funk, inheriting the groove of Parliament.

An incredible conclusion to this journey, Snoop Dogg has brought together all the big names from the West Coast Funk, Soul, and Rap scenes. From Al Green to Ice Cube, they will all be there for a festival that promises to be historic: "Once Upon a Time in L.A."
