Nour is a lawyer, an accomplished woman in her forties with a well-established life. Fabrice is carefree, in his thirties, reserved, drifting through life without direction. They would never have met until the day they both learned they had breast cancer. In the chemotherapy ward of a hospital in Lille, something unexpected begins to grow between them. A story of friendship, born where they thought they were about to lose everything.

Hospitalized in the same department, Fabrice and Nour both undergo a mastectomy. They first cross paths without recognizing each other, then, each trapped in denial about the illness, they reluctantly interact through exchanges marked by mistrust. They only truly grow closer during their chemotherapy sessions. An unexpected solidarity gradually takes root. They become each other's “chemo husband and wife”, supporting one another through moments of discouragement, sharing their fears, anger, doubts and strategies for carrying on.

Confronted with a reality they can no longer control or conceal, each of them slowly learns to break through their protective shell. Their bond, built on discretion and life-saving humor, gives them the strength to face the illness by reclaiming ownership of their bodies in their own way.

“Among Others” explores the contradictory expectations imposed on both female and male bodies, questions the role of other people’s gaze in the deconstruction of self, and examines the difficulty of accepting help when everything is falling apart. Through Fabrice and Nour, this film tells us how illness can become a space for connection and, above all, reinvention.
