Unlike many medical documentaries that focus on doctors, ‘Patients, Life Stories’ follows the patient's point of view, their fears and hopes. For a year, we followed ten people confronted with a serious pathology. These patients shared their day-to-day experiences of illness, ongoing medical care, heavy treatment and delicate operations. With sincerity and modesty, they describe their introspective journey in the face of their illness and their faith in life. The patients we have followed all have one thing in common: they were in perfect health when the disease struck. Isabelle discovered that she was going to need heart surgery, Laurence that she was going to have a tumour removed. At under thirty, Alice and Lunes found themselves on dialysis. Paul has been battling a blood disease for months. Others are hospital regulars. Manu was having his fourteenth operation. We also shared the daily lives of patients waiting for a transplant, an operation that would change their lives, even save them. But for Alice, accepting a kidney from her dad is terribly complicated. Carl was one of the first HIV patients to receive a lung transplant. Actress Clémentine Célarié, who battled colon cancer in 2019 and wrote about it in her book ‘Les Mots défendus’, agreed to take part in this project. Now cured, she tells her life stories. For her, ‘these documentaries are a real journey towards recovery. ’
