He was the first President of the UN General Assembly, the first President of the Council of Europe's General Assembly, the first President of the General Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the Secretary-General of NATO, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, the father of the Treaties of Rome, the founding texts of the European Economic Community (EEC) and Euratom.
